The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

TITLE:  The Coldest Girl in Coldtown
AUTHOR:  Black, Holly
GENRE:  Paranormal
DATES READ:  2/15/2015 - 2/20/2015
MY RATING:  3/5

I cannot remember where or who I got this book from, but I adore the cover, and am excited to get reading!
---
Tana wakes up surrounded by death and ends up on a journey to Coldtown with her ex, and a mysterious young man, in an attempt to save themselves.

The setting of this book, a Coldtown, was fantastic!  What a wonderful creation by Holly Black.  A Coldtown is like a cross between a quarantine, a ghost town, Hotel California, and the vampiric clubs from the big screen.  Fascinating!

My favorite character was Gavriel, as he was the most memorable.  I had a little trouble with the characters being classically YA.  I think that may be why I was so drawn to Gavriel; he was so much more mature than the rest.  Anyway, I pictured most of the characters as being old than they were written (as I sometimes do).  Mainly because they were dealing with heavy issues.

This book was a little gory at times, a lot fascinating, and definitely worth picking up!  It would make a great movie!!

Will read and write soon!

Angel's Blood by Nalini Singh

TITLE:  Angel's Blood
AUTHOR:  Singh, Nalini
GENRE:  Romance/Paranormal
DATES READ:  2/5/2015 - 2/15/2015
MY RATING:  2/5

This might have to be the last romance novel I pick up for a while.  My boyfriend helped me pick this one out because he liked the description on the back.  Hopefully it won't be super cheesy.
---
So, Angel's Blood is about hunters, and vampires, and angels, and archangels.  It's a lot.  I'm not going to lie.  Elena, the main character, is a vampire hunter, and the love interest is the archangel Raphael.  She's been hired to hunt, and I feel he's just been hired to get in the way.

It was an interesting take on vampire creation.  But, I'll take my traditional vampires any day, thank you very much.

The relationship between Raphael and Elena was a little uncomfortable at times, and seemed forced.  It didn't really seem like she wanted him, and he just kept pushing and pushing.  I get the idea of tension, and suspense, but I'm not into the whole power-play, pressured relationship thing.  It didn't seem natural.

The plot was okay, and I'd recommend it to people who enjoy paranormal romance novels.  But I guess my Twilight days are long gone.

Will read and write soon!

When You Dare by Lori Foster

TITLE:  When You Dare
AUTHOR:  Foster, Lori
GENRE:  Romance
DATES READ:  1/30/2015 - 2/4/2015
MY RATING:  2.5/5

I picked this one up deliberately at the bookstore this time (no lame drug store excuses).  I can't handle the cover on this one... HAH!  It just makes me blush and titter like a school girl.
---
When You Dare is the first novel in Lori Foster's Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series.  This one is about a mercenary, Dare Macintosh, who gets hired by Molly Alexander to track down the person who had her kidnapped.  Romance ensues, etc.

So, I'm just going to get this out of the way...  His name is Dare.  Come on.  And Molly Alexander is a romance writer.  But cheese aside.

The plot was okay.  I felt like their romance was believable, especially after what Molly went through with her kidnapping and the fact that Dare was her savior.  Overall, a harmless romp.  I just can't get away from these covers.  They crack me up.

Will read and write soon!
