Before I even begin to assess the specifics of this book, I need to state that it was just not my favorite. I appreciated the story line, but the way it was written was too full of melancholy and I found it almost... whiny.
I really couldn't connect to either of the main characters. I felt each was too stubborn and unyielding in his or her respects. Emma was far too stubborn and idealistic for my taste. And I felt Dexter was just designed to be a grotesque, cookie-cutter playboy. Usually I connect more and find more depth with novel characters.
I picked up this book due to its fabulous reviews, but I have to say I found it wanting. Overall, not my cup of tea at all. Hopefully, others will have better luck. Maybe (for the first time ever) I'll find the movie to be better than the book.
